The Comfort of Appreciating My Dad’s Legacy
The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example. -Benjamin Disraeli
wading through grief with eyes on the sunrise
Time with our loved ones is a gift, but heaven is too. When my dad died suddenly, I had to keep my eyes on the Sunrise of Jesus my Savior to get through the pain.
What do you do with fear and worry? My recent health scare had liver and life lessons for me!
What do you do with fear and worry? Here’s how my recent health scare taught me some important lessons about keeping my liver healthy and trusting God when fear comes pounding on my door.
Strengthening our “bones” - both physically and spiritually
I was at the grocery store a few days ago and saw this petite, elderly woman trying to shop. She had to walk almost like she was doing the limbo, kind of side-saddling to get into the cooler compartment where the eggs were kept, and then she kind of maneuvered herself to bend very far forward to get something further down on a different shelf. I felt for her. And honestly, I said a prayer, asking the Lord to please strengthen my bones so I wouldn’t become her.
Looking back, looking forward
I find myself wondering about the lessons that God wanted me to learn this past year, and whether or not I learned them well. Did I listen to His still small voice? Not that He is ever small, but in His tenderness and kindness, He speaks to me gently. Did I heed, or brush off His instruction, help, correction, or needful truth?
“Going My Way” - a lesson in grace and humility
Even just writing this short synopsis of Going My Way warms my heart. It just makes me want to be better—to be more Christ-like, as Bing’s character, Father O’Malley, was.

Mold Lessons
Our family learned the hard way about the devastating effects of mold and mycotoxins. I am not a health professional or a mold remediation expert, but my hope is that some things we’ve learned on our arduous journey toward health might be useful to you and your family.

Tending the fire, drawing others to Jesus’ light
I was re-reading my piece called, “Perpetual Fire” this morning and it spoke to me afresh. I hope these excerpts from it will speak to you as well. It also convicted me to keep seeking the Lord and His love to refuel me so I can love the way He has called me to love. I certainly do not have the patience, kindness, loving, gentle, sacrificial and understanding ways in myself! But He always does.
My prognosis is good…
God promises in Isaiah, “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or left.” He did this for me.
Pain in the Sunshine
I wrote this piece during the most painful days of my breast cancer journey when I was healing from the cumulative effects of five weeks of radiation therapy.
Scar vs. Ebenezer (Place of Rememberance)
The piece in my devotional called “Scar vs Ebenezer” captures my struggle to come to terms with the mastectomy that loomed in my future. Breast cancer affects every woman that it invades differently. There are so many different stages and grades and types of breast cancer; all of which make each journey unique. Each woman carries different attitudes and beliefs and feelings about their bodies and their womanhood. …. Like Ancient Israel, I, too, took a circuitous route, and God loved me every step of the way.

I See…
God encourages our hearts at just the right time!
My piece titled, “I See…” was something that came to me one fall several years ago when we were deeply in the thick of our kids’ chronic illnesses. It was a time when my son had to pull back from his homeschooling classes —again— and I had long cries with God over scary symptoms and so many not yet answered prayers.
