Be a Prism - A Prayer for His Light to Shine Through His People!

Prism

To be a prism hanging in Your window,

O, Light of the world.

Slender, clear crystal

cut to reflect Your rays

into rainbows on the walls —

or hearts of others.

Your prism—allowing Your light to bounce and shimmer everywhere.

Your prism to split the light streaming in into

Red

Orange

Yellow

Green

Blue

Indigo &

Violet.

Seven rich colors of the rainbow—

seven, the number of completion,

the number of wholeness.

The number of You.

Let Your beauty radiate through Your people

every day of our lives.

Make us Your prisms sending your light so unexpectely,

so beautifully,

out into the world to draw the dreary,

the downcast,

the tired,

to You.

May Your spectrum of light reach them in their shadows

and bring them into Your holy, splendor,

bring them to Jesus, the Savior, whose light dispels all darkness!

Amen!

Jesus is the light of the world. He said this about Himself. He also called us to be salt and light in this world. We know the only way we can do that is to be in the light where He is and let His light shine through us.

John 8:12 - Again, therefore Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

He spoke this as Jerusalem was lit up with menoras, reflecting light off of the brass trumpet-shaped receptacles emptying into the offering boxes, making the whole city full of light up on the hill where all could see it. Jesus’ words came to His hearers at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles, a time God had instituted to remind His people of His Presence with them during their wanderings in the desert. Jesus shows us that He is that Light that is always with us and desiring to shine out into the world so others can be drawn to Him and be saved.

In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus exhorts us, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a say that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

(Matt. 6:14-16 NASB1995)

Lastly, the Holy Spirit, through the Apostle John exhorts us again in 1 John 1:5-10 saying, “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the the blood of His Son cleanses us of al sin. If we say that we have not sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”

Let’s walk in the light today and every day and let His beautiful light shine through us in a million directions bringing His brightness and color everywhere!

Dawn Hill

For Dawn Hill, discovering her Heavenly Father’s daily gifts of joy, hope, beauty, and grace is what continually inspires her as a writer, wife, parent and friend. She has trudged through deep valleys, including 12 years contending for the health of her two children when Lyme disease and toxic mold illness threatened to strip life from both of them, and from her, too. Yet through it all, Dawn and her family, have been upheld by God’s sure Presence and His enduring promises. In the spring of 2023, just when God was moving the mountains for her kids, she discovered a small lump that has taken her on a whole new level of trusting her whole self to Jesus. With the self-proclaimed motto of “cancer is selfish, and I don’t want to be”, Dawn published her first devotional, titled Journey into Trust, to encourage others to see God’s faithfulness, be uplifted by His strength, and have their hope renewed no matter what they may be facing.
