The Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment
If you know someone who is fighting cancer or whose cancer is in remission, please share this post with them. I highly recommend the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment in Skokie, IL. They do all their intake appointments via telehealth video visits, and they take most major medical insurance carriers. Their website is simply: blockmd.com
When I was in the thick of trying to decide what direction to go to help me beat cancer, I looked into a lot of alternative cancer center options and I did about a month of daily high dose IV Vitamin C treatments. However, when it was obvious that the Vitamin C and the rest of that doctor’s protocols were not shrinking my breast tumor and the pathology report from my excisional biopsy verified that I did have cancer, it was clear that I really needed to step back into the realm of conventional medicine. I have been pleased with all the care I’ve received through Northwestern Medicine’s oncology team, and I am following their advice. I’m on an aromatase inhibitor called Letrozole for the next five to ten years to strip me of estrogen since my kind of breast cancer was driven by estrogen and progesterone. I’m also doing all the scans and mammograms and follow up appointments that my oncologist Dr. Menini has recommended.
However, after witnessing too many friends’ and family’s cancer return in a few years after supposedly being eradicated by conventional means, I wanted to do more to improve my chances. For me that was seeking the best of both worlds. I wanted an experienced integrative doctor and to stay connected to Northwestern. When I came across Dr. Block’s book, LIFE OVER CANCER, I dug into it. I really appreciated how totally research based it was and his approach made the most sense to me.
Dr. Block and his wife Penny understand that diet is really important in fighting cancer, as is exercise, good sleep and decreasing stress, but Dr. Block also does a wide range of very specific labs to monitor 5 different body terrains. These five areas, like whether you have sticky blood, how your body handles sugar, your immune health, etc. are the five areas most likely to predict or help you prevent cancer or a cancer recurrence. So every 4 months or so the Block Integrative Cancer Center orders the lab panels they need to keep an eye on these foundational aspects of my health and I meet with their dietician to go over my supplements and diet and adjust things according to my lab results and their recommendations. I read other books on the many and varied natural cancer fighting foods and supplements out there, but with most there really wasn’t an MD that had a successful track record to help guide you on this crazy, life and death journey of cancer. And if they were accessible their guidance came at a high price not covered by any insurance. The Block Center was the exception.
The other thing that the Block Center does that I want you to know about is something called Chronomodulation (Chemo). It is a special way that chemo is infused using a take home infusion kit so that the chemo therapy can be administered at the opportune time for your body’s cells to take it in. This allows them to be able to use lower doses of chemo, but be more effective. I did not have to have chemo therapy, and I am not sure if my insurance would cover this or not, but if I was in a position where I needed it, I would seriously look into this! Here’s the link to it if you’re interested. Chronomodulation | The Block Center, Chicago, IL (blockmd.com)
The Lord has given me great peace, and He’s given me a cancer fighting strategy that is doable and makes sense. I am grateful that with the Block Center I have an early detection system in place, which they’ve found has helped many people deter a cancer recurrence or detect it earlier than with conventional oncology’s approach alone. I hope this information will help you or someone you love!
