The Last Supper - How would we have responded?

Last Supper Women's Devotional

Is it I, Lord?

I find it interesting that at the last Passover supper when the Lord Jesus ate with His disciples each one responded to the news that one of them would betray Him with the question, “Is it I, Lord?”

I think this is quite stunning and indirectly shows their humility and honesty.  I think all of us modern day Christians would be more prone to ask, “Is it him, Lord?”  Or we’d say, “Surely, not I, Lord.”

But the Scripture says in Mark 14:19, “And they began to be sorrowful and say to Him one by one, “Is it I?”  And another said, “Is it I?”

Lord, I echo what the Psalmist wrote at the end of Psalm 139.  “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties (my fears and weaknesses) and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Even when I stumble, even when I fall, Lord, let my heart always be attached to Yours.  Let my response always be as You prayed for Peter, that my faith should not fail, that I would always return to You again and again.  And that I, like Peter, would strengthen my brothers and sisters in faith.  You are worthy of total commitment and obedience, but only Your Spirit can make it so in me.  I open the door of my heart wide to You.  Amen.

Dawn Hill

For Dawn Hill, discovering her Heavenly Father’s daily gifts of joy, hope, beauty, and grace is what continually inspires her as a writer, wife, parent and friend. She has trudged through deep valleys, including 12 years contending for the health of her two children when Lyme disease and toxic mold illness threatened to strip life from both of them, and from her, too. Yet through it all, Dawn and her family, have been upheld by God’s sure Presence and His enduring promises. In the spring of 2023, just when God was moving the mountains for her kids, she discovered a small lump that has taken her on a whole new level of trusting her whole self to Jesus. With the self-proclaimed motto of “cancer is selfish, and I don’t want to be”, Dawn published her first devotional, titled Journey into Trust, to encourage others to see God’s faithfulness, be uplifted by His strength, and have their hope renewed no matter what they may be facing.
