VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Hello and welcome to Journey into Trust Day by day, my name is Dawn Hill, and on this channel, I share biblical principles to build your life upon. If you're just looking for someone who cares, someone you’d like to maybe learn from, or even someone to become like a mentor mom to you, to take you through Scripture step by step—I would love to be that person for you. So, I hope you'll keep tuning in.
Last week, I shared the biblical principle of putting God first in your life. I shared what Jesus said in Matthew 22:37:
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."
He said this was the foremost commandment—the most important one.
But I wanted to make it clear, as Scripture does, that just because we believe in God, or believe there's a God out there, we may feel like we love Him—but if our sin isn't dealt with and we still have that sin burden between us and God, it’s like a wall that’s still there.
God knew the only way He could help us with that sin burden and take down that wall was to send His only Son, Jesus. God knew that if there were any other way besides having His Son go to the cross for us, He would have chosen it. But the only way was for His sinless Son, the Son of God, to come and bear our sins for us.
I just wanted to make it clear that believing in God—or, as some people say, "knowing the big guy in the sky"—is not enough to actually have salvation. It's not enough to have a relationship with God where you know for certain you will be in heaven with Him for eternity, or to know for certain that His Holy Spirit has come into your life and is directing you.
I wanted to take the time in this video to really share the Gospel with you—the Good News—and help you see why you need to put your faith in Jesus. It’s not just about having this vague belief in God while your sin is still there. It’s Jesus who died on that cross to take our sin away. He’s the one who atoned for our sin and received all the punishment our sin deserved on Himself.
When He rose again and was resurrected, that was God showing Him and all of us that He had accepted Jesus's sacrifice for us. It was finished. When Jesus said, "It is finished," He had paid the price. He had taken on the wrath of God—the punishment we deserved—and bore it for us.
Our salvation is not cheap. Grace is not cheap. It came at such a high price: Jesus giving His life for us, and the Father enduring His Son on the cross and pouring out His wrath on His holy Son in our place. All of our sin was laid upon Him.
I wanted to share something from my book. In my book, I include the Good News at the back. If you have my book, great—go there and reread it. It takes you through, from the beginning, when sin entered the human race and how that sin separated mankind from God.
As descendants of Adam and Eve, when Adam chose to disobey God and take a bite of the forbidden fruit, he sinned against God. That sin nature became a part of him and, in turn, a part of every single one of his descendants—us. None of our good works are enough to wash away that sin nature or the inherent sin in us. Without Jesus, that wall keeps us separated from God.
I want you to know: going to God through Jesus, putting your faith in Him, and asking Jesus to forgive you, wash your sin away, and make you brand new—that’s so important. Let Jesus know that you want Him to be first in your life, that you want to follow Him all your days, and that you want to be conformed to His image. Let Him work in you to make you the person He always intended you to be.
Peter makes this very clear in Acts 2 and Acts 4. I don’t want you to just believe what I say—I want you to always go to Scripture and ensure what I’m saying is true and backed up.
In Acts 2:38–40, Peter says:
"Repent, turn from your sin, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you, your children, and all who are far off—as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself. Be saved from this perverse generation."
He went on to preach to the rulers who had arrested him and John, saying:
"Let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by that name, this man stands before you well. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
God has made a way for all of us sinners to return to Him and to break down the wall that sin created between us and Him. That way is through putting our faith in Jesus Christ, asking Him to forgive us, and transforming our lives by His grace.
Open your heart wide to Him. In my book, I felt it was important to include a Salvation prayer at the end. I reached out to a chaplain in our community whom I deeply respect—Chaplain Jay—who God uses mightily every day to lead people to Him. I asked him to write a Salvation prayer for my book, and I want to share that prayer with you now.
If the Holy Spirit is working in your heart, and you realize that, although you’ve thought you’ve known God, you really haven’t put your faith in Jesus or repented for your sins—if you’re ready to surrender to Him today—then this is your moment.
Here’s the Salvation prayer, and I hope you will pray it along with me:
Lord Jesus,
I am so sorry for living life in my own insufficient strength and wisdom. Please forgive me of my sins. I believe You suffered and died on the cruel cross to pay my sin in full. I believe You resurrected from the grave, giving me the victory I need to live for You.
I invite You into my life to save me and make me a true child of God—the one You’ve always desired me to be. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. By God’s amazing grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, I will live for You all the days of my life.
Thank You, Lord Jesus.
The Scripture that accompanies this prayer is from Romans 10:8–9, 13:
"The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart—that is, the word of faith we are preaching: that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.' Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."
If you prayed that prayer with me, or if you’re taking time to reflect and pray on your own, please know this: it’s not the exact words of the prayer that make it meaningful—it’s the desire of your heart that matters.
When you call out to the Lord from your heart, acknowledging your sin as an issue between you and God, recognizing that you’ve sinned against Him, and understanding that the just punishment for sin is death, you’re taking the step of faith. But Jesus went to that cross to take on that punishment for you.
He doesn’t want you or me, or anyone, to die in sin. He paid the ultimate price so that the whole world could be saved through Him.
Remember John 3:16:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
That’s what He wants for you: everlasting life, starting today. When you open your heart to Jesus, the Kingdom of God starts in you now, because He brings the Kingdom.
Thank you again for watching. If you want to learn more about my ministry, my blog, or my book, please visit TheHopefulButtercup.com—the link is on the screen for you. I would love to continue to pour into your life, so please tune back in.
Of course, I’d love it if you’d like this video, share it with friends, or leave a comment. I’d especially love to hear from you if you’ve accepted the Lord Jesus today and experienced new life. You can email me at [email protected] to let me know. That would bring me so much joy because the Bible says that whenever a sinner turns to the Lord, repents, and receives salvation, there is a huge celebration in heaven.
Heaven lights up extra with joy when just one sinner turns to God. If you’ve done that today, know that you are now part of God’s family.
Thanks so much for watching, and I’ll see you again soon.
